Conrad Hotel

Location: Istanbul, Türkiye
Scale: 45,000 m2
Client: Conrad Hotel Istanbul

The Conrad Hilton, a 5-star hotel in downtown Istanbul, was built in 1980. The “S” shaped building was originally designed as three independent blocks, separated by expansion joints. The building had previously been retrofitted using steel ropes at floor levels to manage significant relative displacements at the expansion joints.

Detailed surveying, structural assessments using 3-D non-linear time history analyses, and retrofit design were performed for minor modifications to the structural system. These modifications addressed the enlargement of rooms and the upgrading of shear resistance in various structural members. The work also included cost planning, budgeting, construction supervision, and the preparation of final drawings and documents for the resulting structural system.
