Turkcell Research and Development Center
Location: Istanbul, Türkiye
Client: Erginoglu & Calislar
This project involved the structural design of the Turkcell Research and Development Center in the Gebze region of Türkiye. Turkcell, a private telecommunications company, is in the Tubitak Marmara Research Center Technology Free-Trade Zone on the outskirts of Istanbul.
Considering the site context, views, and orientation, the building features a single-story entry that rises to four stories on the office side, resembling “a slice of cheese.” The higher portion of the structure contains office spaces, with areas facing the land receiving natural light through a large open space extending from the roof downward. As a result, the office spaces benefit from natural light on all four sides.
The building also features a grass roof, offering employees a recreational space. Designed as an IT and technological production center to accommodate 500 employees 24/7, it incorporates the highest technological standards alongside resting and sleeping areas, showers, a fitness center, a climbing wall, and a billiard room. The right wing of the building houses meeting and seminar rooms, while the left wing contains the fitness center and recreational areas.
