Following the Kobe Earthquake, a comprehensive seismic upgrade was carried out for the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway Bridges, totaling 524 meters in length (156+160+109+99 m).
These bridges play a crucial role in handling arterial vehicular traffic and cargo volume within the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Given Tokyo’s location in a highly active seismic zone, ensuring the safety and durability of these structures is of utmost importance.
This service was provided to IHI Corporation.
Completed Task
A detailed design was developed to enhance the earthquake resistance of the existing simple-span bridges by converting them into a continuous-span girder system.
